| Pronoy Shukla | Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi stated today that the deaths of five individuals, suspected to be due to heat stroke following an Indian Air Force show in Chennai, were “very painful.”
She also emphasized that “unmanageable gatherings” should be avoided, subtly critiquing the IAF’s attempt to set a world record by attracting around 15 lakh spectators.
It is very painful and sorrowful to know that five people have died due to soaring heat after attending the IAF Air Show at Marina Beach, Chennai. Unmanageable gatherings should be avoided, Karunanidhi posted on X.
Several reports indicate that there was a lack of sufficient drinking water available in the spectator area during the event, held on a day when temperatures soared to 35 degrees Celsius.
Leader of the Opposition and AIADMK chief, Edappadi K Palaniswami, criticized the DMK government led by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, alleging that it failed to properly organize the Air Force event.

“On the occasion of the 92nd Inauguration Day of the Indian Air Force, which is one of the most important components of the Indian Defense Department, an air adventure program was staged in Chennai to celebrate the strength of the Air Force. As the notification for this was published in advance, knowing that lakhs of people would come to visit, the Tamil Nadu government informed that arrangements have been made for transportation and basic facilities,”Palaniswami posted on X.
BJP national spokesperson CR Kesavan also criticized the DMK government, describing its actions as marked by “negligence and incompetence.” The Air Force has not yet commented on the tragic loss of lives or the criticism regarding its effort to gather such large, challenging crowds.
